Top Selling Feminine Fragrances 2o12 France
Top Selling Feminine Fragrances 2011 USA
Top Selling Feminine Fragrances for 2010 USA
Last week I was attending one of our usual marketing presentations that focused on current perfume trends and popular fragrances. I jotted down a few notes on what is selling well this spring in the US.
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
Chanel Bleu de Chanel
Gucci Guilty Homme
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre
LVMH continues to make most of its money from J’Adore, while Estee Lauder’s top seller is Cashmere Mist.
No major revelations here, but I was curious to see that Gucci Guilty Homme jumped straight to the top of the best seller list (compare it to last year’s Top Selling Masculine Fragrances USA list). Maybe, it isn’t all that surprising, since it’s another fresh, “boardroom acceptable” blend. There is nothing avant-garde about it, but it’s well-made and elegant.
Also, Jo Malone Grapefruit and Orange Blossom candles are among the best selling home scents at department stores. Orange Blossom in particular has been a hot item ever since it was mentioned that Kate Middleton even scented the church for her wedding “with her favorite orange-blossom Jo Malone candles” (quote via Vanity Fair). It’s still selling like hot cakes.

Elizabeth: No wonder that when I wore L’Eau d’Hiver to a graduate seminar, my classmates, most of whom were young women in their twenties, wrinkled their noses and complained, “Ewww, something smells like babies and baby powder in here!” They are so accustomed to fruit-patchouli compotes that everything else is unbearable to them, it seems. If I wore my Le Temps d’une Fete or, heaven forbid, Chanel No. 19, they would probably demand that the building be immediately evacuated and fumigated! May 11, 2012 at 11:29am
Victoria: Elizabeth, I’m laughing out loud at your last comment, but I have to admit that you have a point. I smelled Private Collection on a lady next to me on A train, and I wanted to thank her for wearing something other than a sweet compote. Justin Bieber’s Someday is what I have been smelling for the past few weeks almost daily!
There is nothing wrong with sweet or fruity blends, but I feel that there are fewer other choices for women outside the niche. May 11, 2012 at 12:29pm
Barney A. Bishop: Good stuff. I’m surprised by Gucci as well. May 11, 2012 at 11:38am
Victoria: It also has the solid marketing presentation behind it. All of these elements help. May 11, 2012 at 12:22pm
behemot: Just to compare, there is a list of 5 Top sellers listed on Douglas Poland website:
FEMININES
1.Chloe Eau de Chloe
2.DKNY Pure Verbena
3.Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
4.DKNY Golden Delicious
5.Emanuel Ungaro L’Amour Fou (never heard of this one before)
MASCULINES
1.Chanel Allure Homme Sport Extreme (what a name)
2. Mont Blanc Legend Man
3,Paco Rabanne One Million
4. Emporio Armani Diamonds Men
5.Chanel Bleu de Chanel
The names of top masculine fragrances seem a funny combination. One Million, Diamonds, Homme Sport Extreme .. Legend Man.. May 11, 2012 at 3:31pm
Victoria: Thank you! It makes for a great comparison. Glad to see my favorite L’Eau de Chloe doing so well. Ungaro has a bunch of flankers that do amazingly well in Asia, but don’t even appear here in stores.
Allure Homme Sport Extreme is only a few descriptors away from winning the prize for a long and convoluted perfume name. 🙂 May 11, 2012 at 3:37pm
behemot: I am glad for Eau de Chloe too! May 11, 2012 at 4:07pm
Arxsyn: Ugh I cannot stand Chance and ESP the flanker versions. It’s disappointing to see it in the list. They smell like air freshener. Or laundry because detergents these days have strong fragrance, usually adulterated with musk for the scent to last. I dont know about you, but I don,t want to smell like laundry… July 2, 2012 at 4:14am
Raluca: I have a strong dislike for Chance and Coco Mademoiselle as I smell them everywhere. My nostrils feel attackedR by the sharp smell of patchouli, I believe. Is it patchouli that smells so strong or something else? I do like Coco though but never smell it around me. These days I wear Biehl Parfumkunstwerke eg01. November 28, 2012 at 7:25am
