Suleko Albho, Vy Roza and Djelem : New Perfume Line

Suléko is a new indie perfume line created and designed by Anastasia Sokolow, a graduate of the Institute of Perfume, Cosmetics, and Food Flavouring (ISIPCA). Inspired by Sokolow’s Russian heritage and the tradition of Russian perfumery, Suléko features fragrances corresponding to different seasons. The name Suléko, which means “soul” in Georgian, also refers to a popular song about a young man looking for his beloved.

Suléko’s fragrances are “inspired by Russian culture, painting, music, literature and, as works of art, are contained in sculptures created by contemporary artists – visual and tactile reflections of the olfactory compositions.”

The line currently includes three perfumes, which were composed in collaboration between Sokolow and perfumer Cécile Zarokian: Albho, Vy Roza and Djélem.

Albho represents winter.  It features notes of mint, eucalyptus, pine, cedarwood, guaiacwood, benzoin, tolu balm, and labdanum. “As if transported to a distant country beyond the mountains, where the sky is always pure.”

Vy Roza “makes reference to Tatiana, the heroine of A. S. Pushkin’s novel, Eugene Onegin. “Vy Roza belle Tatiana” (“You are a Rose, beautiful Tatiana”), sings Parisian ballet master Triquet on her birthday.” It’s a spring-like, dewy rose.

Djélem is the name of a Roma song, and the fragrance represents summer. It includes notes of carnations, celove, amber, and immortelle.

1.7 oz. Eau de Parfum Refillable ornament bottle (€240), 1.7 oz. Eau de Parfum refill (€85). More information can be found at suleko.com. Via press release.

    • Victoria: That’s a bottle for Albho, so you’re both right–it’s a swan wing. June 27, 2013 at 11:18am Reply

      • Victoria: And I forgot to explain it further: Albho is the Indo-European root for a Russian word “lebed,” which means swan. June 27, 2013 at 11:19am Reply

  • Safran: The scents sound very interesting and the bottle looks beautiful – mysterious, pure, like a sculpture.

    • Victoria: Out of three bottles, this one is my favorite. The pure white porcelain is beautiful, and it does look like a piece of art. June 27, 2013 at 11:22am Reply

    • Victoria: I’m starting to love winter more, especially when it snows. This year we actually had plenty of white, snowy days. June 29, 2013 at 1:38pm Reply

  • Undina: I like everything about this brand so far – the idea, names and bottles. What I do not like is that they don’t sell samples: there is no way one can purchase perfume that is that expensive from an unknown perfumer just based on a description. I really hope they’ll figure something out soon. June 29, 2013 at 4:49pm Reply

    • Victoria: Gosh, so true! Every line should have a sampling program, especially small niche lines with limited distribution. June 30, 2013 at 8:10am Reply
