L’Artisan Tea For Two, L’Eau du Caporal, and Oeillet Sauvage

Happy news for those who’ve been mourning discontinued perfumes from L’Artisan Parfumeur–Tea For Two, L’Eau du Caporal, and Oeillet Sauvage will return to the collection in November 2014.

L'Artisan Parfumeur - Oeillet Sauvage - 100mlL'Artisan Parfumeur - L'eau du Caporal - 100ml

Tea For Two was created in 2000 by Olivia Giacobetti and was inspired by lapsang souchong, a famous smoky tea from China.  Giacobetti blended smoky notes, adding gourmand accents, ginger, cinnamon and honey. It was one of the first fragrances to be reviewed on Bois de Jasmin, and it was the fragrance I missed the most from L’Artisan.

L’Eau du Caporal was created in 1985 by Jacques Fraysse and was inspired by the perfection of nature. It’s a refined fougère accord, with notes of geranium, lavender and oakmoss. Fraysse also added lots of tangerine, cedarwood, patchouli, and vetiver. Spicy and aromatic.

Oeillet Sauvage was first launched in 2000, and this ode to spicy carnations was created by perfumer Anne Flipo. She accented the floral heart of carnation, rose, ylang-ylang, and lilac with black pepper and pink pepper, and set it against a backdrop of cedarwood and musk.

Tea For Two, L’Eau du Caporal, and Oeillet Sauvage will be sold as Eaux de Toilette, 100ml (3.4oz) bottles/100€, starting November 2014. Via press release

  • James1051: Great news!

Pushing my luck here…any chance Fleur d’Oranger will be joining these 3 for a curtain call? October 22, 2014 at 8:07am Reply

    • Victoria: I’d love for that one to return too! And their Patchouli too. October 22, 2014 at 10:56am Reply

  • Jordi: I guess the question is, will they be reformulations? Eau du Caporal being the oldest makes me assume it will be reformulated to comply with current normatives.

Other than that without knowing the originals I do want to smell them as they seem very interesting. October 22, 2014 at 8:10am Reply

    • Victoria: It’s a given than any perfume older than a couple of years has been tweaked. The only question is how much. Nevertheless I look forward to trying them. October 22, 2014 at 10:57am Reply

  • Alessandra: OMG I thought they would have reintroduced Tea For Two only!!! Amazing news! Especially because they are permanent reintroductions!
I think the house has finally accepted the criticism from the clientele and decided to make it happy 🙂 October 22, 2014 at 8:21am Reply

    • Victoria: I never understood why they discontinued Tea for Two and their marvelous Vanilia. Now, that’s another one I’d love to see back. October 22, 2014 at 10:58am Reply

      • Alessandra: Me too! Plenty of bizarre choices, anyway October 22, 2014 at 5:20pm Reply

  • Allison C.: Thanks for the news! I am looking forward to Oeillet Sauvage. And I still miss Jacinthe des Bois which I think came out at the same time. It was such a lovely springtime scent. October 22, 2014 at 9:19am Reply

    • Victoria: That one was so pretty. They also had a great hyacinth scented candle. October 22, 2014 at 10:59am Reply

  • DDJ: Perhaps it’s too much to hope, but is it possible that these perfume companies have finally figured out that it will be easier to sell what people are *already* clamoring for?

…rather than to market and promote yet another unknown, unheralded —really uncared about— “new” fragrance in a herd with all the others? October 22, 2014 at 9:34am Reply

    • Victoria: I’d love for that to be the case! 🙂 October 22, 2014 at 11:00am Reply

  • Alessandra: Is oeillet sauvage any close to roger et gallet’s soap? cos if it is, I want it October 22, 2014 at 10:12am Reply

    • Victoria: The last time I tried it was more than 10 years ago, so I don’t remember it well. Hope that someone else can comment.

If you love R&G soap, then you should try Caron’s Bellodgia. October 22, 2014 at 11:01am Reply

      • Alessandra: I will! Thanks! October 22, 2014 at 5:20pm Reply

  • Kandice: I’ve been wanting to try Tea For Two for awhile but was afraid I’d fall in love with it since it’s gone. Now I can try it and not worry! It will be interesting to see if it’s reformulated and if it smells the same to those who have used it before. October 22, 2014 at 10:40am Reply

    • Victoria: I’m very curious to see! I still have almost a full bottle, so I will try to compare them. October 22, 2014 at 11:02am Reply

    • Neisha: Same here! October 22, 2014 at 2:03pm Reply

  • Jamie K.: With any luck, Vanilia might make a comeback soon. October 22, 2014 at 10:55am Reply

    • Victoria: I still don’t understand why they discontinued it in the first place, unless it had something to do with the reformulations. It was such an interesting vanilla. October 22, 2014 at 11:02am Reply

  • Austenfan: Didn’t l’Artisan have a great narcissus scent? And a hyacinth one? I would love to try those. I’ve an almost full bottle of Tea for Two as well, I really like it but I still think Eau du Fier is closer to real Lapsang. October 22, 2014 at 11:36am Reply

    • Phyllis Iervello: Yes l’Artisan had a wonderful narcissus scent–it was the first (I believe) of their special edition fragrances that cost twice as much as their regular ones and were packaged in a special wooden box (if my memory serves me correctly). I still have a half a bottle of that one left. October 22, 2014 at 12:17pm Reply

      • Victoria: And the bottles were tall and slender and were decorated with silk flowers. Very pretty. October 22, 2014 at 12:19pm Reply

    • Victoria: They did, Fleur de Narcisse, and it was such a great take on a narcissus. I also remember Jacinthe des Bois that Allison mentioned as a fresh, green hyacinth. It would be great to see it back. October 22, 2014 at 12:18pm Reply

      • Austenfan: They sound gorgeous. Was their Iris, Iris Pallida, any good? October 22, 2014 at 2:28pm Reply

        • Victoria: It was very good, but with so many great iris perfumes–Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist, Chanel 28 La Pausa, No 19, Annick Goutal Heure Exquise, Prada Infusion d’Iris, it didn’t stand out for me. October 22, 2014 at 2:30pm Reply

          • Austenfan: I’m on an iris kick this week. I wore Mythique yesterday and VCA’s Bois d’Iris today and have just sprayed myself with Love les Carottes.

I would just love to try both the Narcissus and Jacinthe one. Even in nature those smells are almost perfumes in themselves. October 22, 2014 at 2:45pm Reply

            • Victoria: And I was wearing YS-Yzac’s Satin Doll, a gorgeous iris perfume. October 22, 2014 at 2:52pm Reply

              • Austenfan: Is that a good line? I’ve noticed the name on the ausliebezumduft site, but can’t remember if I’ve ever read a review of any of their scents. October 22, 2014 at 2:58pm Reply

                • Victoria: It’s very good. I’m reaching a stage where I can’t motivate myself to explore a completely new, unknown line, because there is always a good chance that it is overpriced and boring (the niche market is oversaturated!) But this one, apart from the uninspiring name, is very good. I liked their Pohadka and Satin Doll the most. Angela of NST had a good review of Pohadka. October 22, 2014 at 3:03pm Reply

                  • Austenfan: Just found that one and read it. She didn’t really like Satin Doll though. I may actually order a few samples. It’s so hard to keep any kind of focus with all these niche lines sprouting up out of nowhere. October 22, 2014 at 3:09pm Reply

                    • Maggie: Dear Austenfan, there is a very good review of Satin Doll by The Silver Fox on Cafleurebon; he loved it, and thought it the stand out of the collection. Well worth reading, if you are interested. Cafleurebon also has reviews of others by Ys-Uzac. October 22, 2014 at 7:28pm

                    • Austenfan: Thanks for letting me know! October 23, 2014 at 5:13am

                    • Victoria: Satin Doll has a somewhat unexciting start, but the drydown is stunning and is worth waiting for. Pohadka is very interesting (a bit like Histoires de Parfums Marquise de Sade), but Satin Doll is more up my alley. October 23, 2014 at 8:01am

                    • Austenfan: Thanks, V. I am slowly filling my wishlist at ALZD and will add these 2 Uzacs. ( samples, bien entendu!) October 23, 2014 at 12:12pm

                  • Basia: There is not much out there about this perfume. People mention a screechy wood note that overwhelms the iris. But I am extremely intrigued, dry down notes sound wonderful. Do you still enjoy Satin Doll all these months later? May 30, 2015 at 9:38am Reply

                    • Victoria: I like it very much, but I don’t reach for it much. Not sure why, but isn’t it telling? May 31, 2015 at 11:39am

    • Amer: WOW! Eau du Fier. Is it still available? I haven’t seen it on an AG counter for years. October 24, 2014 at 8:04am Reply

  • elvanui: Oh My God.
    OHMYGOD!

    My Tea is coming back!!!
I just KNEW the sneaky little witch could not leave me for good:).
Come to Mama. Let me spritz you lavishly again, as it used to be in the good old days. We belong together:). Last fall was not even a shadow of itself without you.
    Oh.
This is the happiest perfume news I’ve heard in years.

      • Alessandra: Dzing! has not been discontinued, luckily 😉 October 22, 2014 at 5:21pm Reply

    • Victoria: I still think that her perfumes for L’Artisan (and well, in general,) are remarkable and have given niche perfumery a distinctive feel. October 22, 2014 at 2:47pm Reply

      • Austenfan: She does quirky very well. October 22, 2014 at 2:58pm Reply

  • sara: I wish they would revive La Haie de Fleurie and Riviera Palace. October 22, 2014 at 3:33pm Reply

    • Victoria: I don’t remember Riviera Palace that well, but I loved the spicy white flowers of La Haie de Fleurie. October 23, 2014 at 7:58am Reply

    • Tara C: I loved those two! Still have some Riviera Palace left, a beautiful floral. October 25, 2014 at 12:59am Reply

  • MontrealGirl: Yes!!!!!!! I smelled it as a sample after hunting high and low for a good tea perfume. Fell in love and then found out it was discontinued. Great news. Made my day. Thanks! October 22, 2014 at 7:29pm Reply

    • Victoria: Hope that it will be same as before, or better! October 23, 2014 at 7:57am Reply

  • songeuse: Great news, especially Tea for Two! Never understood why that one was discontinued, since it seems to be such a darling among fragrance lovers. Now I can spritz my bottle with abandon this fall. 🙂 October 22, 2014 at 10:27pm Reply

    • Victoria: Same here! I was dosing the remnants of my bottle very carefully. October 23, 2014 at 7:56am Reply

    • Alessandra: Yeah! Even Catherine Deneuve loves it…. and yes, it’s quite a brilliant perfume! October 23, 2014 at 8:04am Reply

  • Lucas: Looking forward to smelling Eau du Caporal again – I had a brief smell of it around 6 months ago when it was still just a plan for re-launching. October 24, 2014 at 9:17am Reply

  • Marcia Caporal: Could you please let me know where I can buy “L’Eau du Caporal” in Rome or Milan?
I’m from Brazil and I’ll be there next month and I really would like to have some of this special parfurm with my family name.
    Thank you in advance,
